Three Tips on Eating Healthy with Kids

Water It  is tough eating healthy with kids! I asked one of our coaches, Lucy Hernandez from Lucy’s Family Fitness to give us some tips.

I was recently asked to share three tips on how to eat healthy and get the kids in on the fun as well. Some things that I have found to help are making dinner fun.

Let your kids help you prepare the food. They will feel more proud of their accomplishments while helping you prepare dinner and be more likely to eat what is being served. I would also recommend serving more vegetable and a variety of them. If you constantly serve the same types of veggies you are never exposing your children to other healthy foods. Doing this will also guarantee that they find new vegetables to like. I have yet to try this but I have heard of people switching out mashed cauliflower for mashed potatoes. They taste just as good but much more healthier.

If all of the above fail you could always offer your child the option on having SHAKEOLOGY for one of their meals. There are so many healthy components in this shake what parent wouldn’t give this option to there children. Now on to my THREE TIPS!!

10 reasons TIP NUMBER 1: Drink lots of Water! you will be surprised at how much better your body works and you will feel when you are properly hydrated.

TIP NUMBER 2: Eat Healthier. It is very true what they say that exercise is only 20-30 percent of the final outcome to success. It is very important to have proper nutrition. Eating healthy accounts for 70 percent of your daily needs to reach your goals.

TIP NUMBER 3: Exercise daily! For those with families this does not mean going to the gym everyday. find different things to do together to promote a healthier lifestyle such as going to the park, taking and family bike ride and walking. It is all about how fun you make things. My kids love to exercise now that they see what fun I have during my workouts.

If all else fails, workout with my little girl! 🙂

They sure do keep us busy. On top of being a full-time mother, I also work full-time outside of the home. I am a medical assistant and have worked in the health care field since I was a sophomore in high school. I started out as a receptionist and worked my way up to Registered Medical Assistant / Chiropractic Technician / Phlebotomist. I always knew that I wanted to help people and was sure that a job in the healthcare field was perfect for me. Being a M.A has given me the opportunity to help so many people. I have also worked for many different practices in my 10 years in the healthcare field such as gastroenterology, internal medicine, pediatrics, hematology oncology, podiatry, medication research studies, obstetrics and most recently chiropractic. I guess you could say I came full circle. I soon began to realize that helping people was not always about taking medication and there are alternative ways to manage every type of illness. This began to intrigue me so I started learning more about the different types of ways one of the most recent ones is chiropractic care.

I Joined Beachbody as a coach a little over a month and a half ago but have been using the products on and off since 2008 right after my son was born. The first time around the program I was using was P90x I loved it! I especially loved all the smart remarks Tony Horton added into his workouts it made it super fun for me. The first time around with p90x I lost 20 lbs. Then I got busy with life and failed to continue with the exercise. At that point I didn’t realize that I needed to change the way I was thinking about this it was not just a quick fix but a lifestyle change. I became pregnant with my daughter in 2009 and just started packing on the weight again so those 20 lbs. were long gone but it was inevitable since my daughter came first and needed to be healthy. After she was born I just could not find the motivation to get started again. I would try and try but nothing.

It was not until recently that I step on the scale one morning and saw that I was close to 200lbs not even when I was pregnant did I weight that! I knew something had to change! I decided then and there that I was going to find a new program and make this lifestyle change for myself and my family! My children and my husband need me here. I would hate to think what would happen if for some reason I was not around. My reason for wanting to become a coach was simple to help those around me reach their goals and stay motivated. I love all the support and motivation that I have gotten in the short time that I have been a coach and I want to do the same for others.
