A P90X Transformation in the Man Cave

It’s Transformation Tuesday! I’m excited to share John’s transformation story with you. He is one of my first customers. It has been fun seeing his transformation photos and hearing about his progress. He’s done an amazing job. Congratulations John for not only losing 51 pounds, but also gaining energy and regaining  your health! This is John’s story in his own words.

A P90X Transformation in the Man Cave

In high school and college, I was very involved in athletics. After college, in med school and residency, I didn’t find the time to do much exercise. At one point in residency, after I saw my weight go up, I lost 20 pounds using “Slimfast” in about 4 months. After I stopped, the weight came right back on.This continued into my career. I saw myself getting bigger and bigger.

I tried to eat healthy, but that didn’t do a lot. My wife was always trying to get me do something for exercise. I tried a few things, but just didn’t like them and didn’t keep them up. I always told her “eventually I’ll do something”. As I approached age 50, I really realized I better do something if I wanted to enjoy part-time work and retirement, or I might even be dead if I didn’t get back into shape.

I decided that if I got a high def TV in my man cave, I would order P90X and use it there. I listen to a lot of sports radio and heard about it from a lot of the personalities I listen to. My wife finally said I could get the TV, so I ordered the dvds. I started them as soon as I got them. The first week was hell. I couldn’t even get through a work out, but, like “uncle Tony” says, I just kept hitting play.

Within three to four weeks, I could really tell the difference in my energy level, and saw the weight beginning to disappear. So, I kept it up, tho didn’t do the full six days a week, usually about five days a week. I continued to see results, so just kept going.

People Started Noticing

As people began to tell me how much better I looked, it kept me motivated to keep going. I ended up completing four rounds of P90X in a little over a year. I lost 35 pounds (43 if I go back to six months before I started p90x), my cholesterol went from 235 to 183, and blood pressure went from 135/85 to 106/62.

I call him “uncle Tony” because after about four weeks of doing P90X, my wife and I went camping with our little dogs. We went on a nature trail, lots of roots to go around and logs to go over. I had our Boston Terrier, who just “WANTS TO GO”! I ran with her, and when we got to the end I couldn’t believe my own reaction. Normally, it would have been OMG, let me sit and have a beer. This time, it was “wow, that was fun, I want to do it again”. So I told my wife that and said “thank you Uncle Tony” and it stuck.

That was probably part of why I kept P90X up too. I knew it worked if the sports radio personalities were getting results. It had a great mix of core, cardio and weights. I did 4 rounds, seeing results with every one. By the end of those, I had muscle definition, and much less fat having lost 43 pounds. I thought I would try to bulk up even more, and my wife agreed. So, I ordered Body Beast. I also ordered a large set of dumbells, and couldn’t believe how excited I was when they arrived. I did an entire round of Body Beast, but still had some fat to lose, so after that for 5 months I alternated weeks of P90X and Body Beast.

I thought I may like to do more cardio at this point, but wasn’t sure what to do. I saw the ads for T25, thought about ordering. My decision was made for me when I injured my elbow and couldn’t lift weights. I did a round of T25, and after finishing alternated workouts with the three programs. I then saw P90X3, and knowing they were 30 minutes, ordered it and just finished it three weeks ago. Overall, I lost 51 pounds, and probably more pounds of fat as I gained muscle mass. My definition is great, I have a ton more energy. I’ll even get up and do things for my wife now before she asks, because I like to keep moving. I’m proud .of the way my blood pressure and cholesterol dropped. I’m also proud when people who haven’t seen me since I started working out don’t even recognize me if they see me now. I’ve had to tell several people who I am.

More Than Just Weight Loss

My overall energy, ambition and alertness have increased. My mood is better. I had a friend tell me “when you first started working out, you were on an exercise kick. Now, it’s become a lifestyle for you.” He was right. While I don’t always look forward to my workouts, I get very upset with myself if I had the time that day to do one and didn’t. Even if I don’t feel like dong a workout, I always feel good after I finish, and better about myself. I’m even getting up before work now in order to make sure I get a workout in.
