A New Me

Post by Shannon

I feel like a whole new person! It’s been an awesome journey the past 11 months. I have changed a lot inside and out. For the past 9 1/2 months since I was able to exercise after having our baby, I’ve been on a quest to get in shape!! It has been a long road, but I’m getting there!

Today I tried an advanced workout from Beachbody’s Insanity workout. That is the workout I started with at the end of Sept. 2011. I couldn’t believe how much easier it was to do the workout today!!! I felt awesome! I could actually do the pushups without going on my knees (well, almost all of them!), and I wasn’t dying through the workout. I remember doing those workouts before and barely making it through! I’ve come a long way, and it feels so awesome!

A LITTLE HISTORY

For those of you who read our blog, you’ll know that I gained a LOT of weight both times I got pregnant. This is hard when you are used to being healthy and fit!

I was a gymnast growing up. I trained five hours a day four to five days a week. I was 16% body fat, and in amazing shape. I also ran several 1/2 marathons and one full marathon. Being in shape was just a part of life for me.

After I got married in 2007, I gained 15 pounds in the first year of marriage. I got pregnant a year later and gained about 47 pounds. The day I had my baby I weighed 199! This was CRAZY!!  I’d always been between 135 to 140. This was a HUGE jump for me!

It was hard for me to lose weight at first. I was depressed and didn’t know how to lose weight. Some days I just looked out the window and thought that this must be how it is when you have kids.

I got down to 165 after walking and running for six months after my baby was born. This helped, but I was stuck at 165. I hit a plateau.

I decided to try P90X. I did P90X for 90 days and then Insanity for 60. I was able to lose the weight plus more, and get down to 137 after about a year. I was even able to accomplish my goal of running a 1/2 marathon after my baby was born when she was 11 months old.

FLASH FORWARD TO TODAY

I was DETERMINED not to get depressed after my second baby was born, and I was also determined to get back in shape as quick as possible! This time I started using Insanity right away, even though I was really out of shape! I don’t recommend starting with Insanity if you aren’t in good shape!

When I started Insanity on Sept. 26, 2011, I weighed 178 pounds (down 18 pounds since the day I had my baby). I did the first month twice and then the second month and got down to 153! I lost 25 pounds in three months using Insanity and eating five times a day. I also started using Shakeology the last month, which was December. I lost 7 pounds in December alone, and that’s the hardest month to lose weight!

TURBO FIRE

On Jan. 2, I started Turbo Fire. I did the first month twice, and so I did the program for 24 weeks. I also trained and ran a 1/2 marathon in the second month of Turbo Fire in March 2012. I was at 142 at that point, just 7 months after I had my baby. I lost weight twice as fast after my second baby because I knew what to do this time!! I felt awesome!! It is my goal to run a 1/2 marathon after every baby I have!

I finished Turbo Fire in June 2012, and got down to 134. I lost 19 pounds doing Turbo Fire, running, five meals a day and Shakeology. I also started an online Facebook community at the beginning of January for support and motivation! Running this group not only helped others, but it helped me stay motivated too!

I started Brazil Butt Lift right after Turbo Fire. It has been a great workout. I’m having fun with it!

MY MOTIVATION

When you do something hard, like lose weight, run a big race, start a business, etc., you need to have a reason why you are doing it or you’ll quit.

I started on this weight loss journey to have more energy to play with my kids and keep my house clean. It has become more than that as I’ve gone through this journey.

It is about feeling good about myself. I feel more confident and sure of who I am when I’m healthy and fit. I handle stress better, am a better wife and mom and am so much happier!

So today I’m feeling like a whole new person! I feel more confident and alive than I have in a long time! I feel like I’m getting my life more balanced, more organized and more efficient each day. I love it!
