If You Think You Can, You Can!
On September 8, I ran a 1/2 marathon with two friends and my sister in Utah. It was awesome! I love running. It was fun running with a group! The course was beautiful. I love running through beautiful scenery. It makes it even better! We ran through sun flowers and an open fields. The weather was perfect too. It couldn’t have been a better day!
We started the run thinking we’d run / walk the race. We hoped to run the whole course, but we decided to take it one mile at a time to see how we did. We celebrated each mile by cheering at each mile marker! That made it fun and rewarding. It also made the miles fly by quickly. We gained confidence as we passed each mile. It felt awesome!
My sister was faster than us so she flew past us, but the rest of us stuck together and finished together. It got tougher during the last few miles of the race, but we DID IT, and we did it together! It wasn’t about getting an amazing time. It was about finishing together!
As you read the beginning of this post, you might be thinking, “She’s a runner so that’s easy for her.” or “She’s always been in shape. She’s probably never struggled with her weight.”
The truth is running has NEVER been easy for me! I love running because it’s a challenge, and I LOVE challenges! I started running long distances when I was in high school. I could barely run 5 minutes without dying. I took the challenge and gradually increased my distance. I kept going. I kept trying. Four years later I reached my goal of running the St. George Marathon (26.2 miles) without stopping. I made it because I didn’t give up! That’s my secret! It took me four years to get the courage to run a marathon, but I did it!
I’ve been running ever since because I love it. That doesn’t mean it’s been smooth sailing though! I gained over 60 pounds with BOTH of my pregnancies, and had my babies c-section BOTH times. That was a tough physical challenge, but I made a goal to run a 1/2 marathon after every baby. I ran one after my first baby and have run two after my second. I have plans to run more in the next few months.
Never Give Up!
It is so important to NEVER GIVE UP! If you want to run a 5K, DO IT! If you want to do a triathlon, DO IT! If you want to lose 60 pounds, DO IT! Whatever you want to do, DO IT!
I know you can if you try! It might take time, but if you BELIEVE you can do something, and you put forth the effort to make it happen, IT WILL HAPPEN!
There will be challenges along the way. That’s pretty much a guarantee. Don’t let those stop you. Don’t let ANYONE or ANYTHING get in your way! You are the one who can make it happen!!
